News from our beachfront neighbors: Happenings at Whitefish Dunes State Park

As summer winds down our neighbor to the north, Lake Michigan beachfront Naturalist Carolyn Rock, announces the upcoming  schedule of events for our neighbors at Whitefish Dunes State Park. Thank you to park Naturalist Carolyn Rock. Here are the upcoming events at the Dunes:

August 24, 2013
Finding Fossils.
Explore the rocks to discover stories of the past.  Meet at the amphitheater for this exploration.
10:00 a.m.

Buzzing About Bees. 
Drop by the amphitheater to discover the amazing world of bees.  Learn how important bees are and make a bee to take home.
2:00 – 3:00 p.m.

August 31, 2013
Forest Hike.Take a gentle hike to discover the forest ecosystem.  Through stories and science learn about the flora and fauna found.  Meet at the nature center for this exploration.
10:00 a.m.

Flower Power.Drop by the amphitheater for this petaled program full of color.  Explore flower parts and create a flower of your own design.
2:00 – 3:00 p.m.

August 30, 2013
Dune Discovery. Explore how dunes are formed and create a dune yourself. Meet at the amphitheater for this relaxing sandy hike.
10:00 a.m.

Drop by the amphitheater to learn about the deadly storms and harrowing tales of ships on Lake Michigan. See shipwreck artifacts along with block and pulleys. Join the naturalist for this hands-on experience.
2:00 – 3:00 p.m.

Whitefish Dunes State Park is located at 3275 Clark Lake Road (county WD), on the Lake Michigan shoreline south of Jacksonport.
