Ask Diver Paul.  Got a question about Great Lake Shipwrecks?  Want to know more about diving?  Curious how archeologist survey shipwrecks?  Ask Diver Paul!  Join the naturalist on the shore to ask Paul Bentley, Wisconsin State Historical Society Volunteer, these and other questions as Maritime Archeologists survey the Australasia shipwreck.  A spotting scope will be set up to view the dive vessel.  Local residents can listen in on their marine radios, channel to be announced.  This program is dependent upon the weather and diving conditions.  Location: amphitheater 10:00am – 2:00pm

Saturday, April 21st
1:30 – 2:30 pm – Routes of the Voyageurs
Who were the Voyageurs and what did they do? Join in exploring the North American fur trade through sight and touch.  Discover its impact on the Great Lakes and Eastern Canada regions.  Travel from 1500 to 1850, with a voyageur.  Explore the sites of the North West Company Fur Trade along with seeing the tools of the trade.  Gather in the Nature Center’s auditorium for this program.  This program is geared for middle school children and older but younger siblings are welcome.

Saturday, April 28th
6:30 am – Bird Exploration
Join amateur birders Bill and Sarah Krouse for a morning of birding.  This adult focused program will allow participants to explore a variety of habitats for migrating birds.  Meet at the shelter building for this longer program.  Dress for the weather.

Saturday, May 7th
9:00 am – 4:00pm Spring Dune Day
Grab your rake, put on your gloves, and join the park staff and Friends of Whitefish Dunes for a day of sprucing up the park.  Bring your friends and family for a whole day, morning or afternoon of fun.  Split wood with the friends or work on the trails with park staff.  Get out and enjoy the outdoors and help the park.  Crews of all levels of ability, strengths and ages are needed.  Children under the ages of 16 must work with a parent.  Inside work may be available also.  There will be something for everyone.  Lunch provided for those who sign up.  Morning session begins at 9:00am.  Lunch is at noon and the afternoon session begins at 1:00pm. A Door County Beach in Winter: Check out the neighborhood!

The hike from Glidden Lodge Beach Resort to Whitefish Dunes State Park (Feb. 4, 2012)

The park has 4.5 miles of winter hiking trails that take you along the water and loops around and above the dunes themselves. All trails lead back to a Nature Center featuring displays on the ecology, geology and human history of the park. Spring Brings New and Exciting Things!!!

WELCOME SPRING!!!

 

We have had the BEST weather lately!!!  It sure makes you want to go hiking at the State Parks, strolling down Glidden Drive, or walking along the water’s edge.  We have seen and heard a lot more from our animal friends the last week or two.  Deer are crossing the road, chipmunks are chattering, birds are singing – all a sure fire sign that spring is HERE!!!

This Spring besides doing our annual spring clean up chores, we are in the process of renovating the rooms.  Before the summer season the units will be getting a “face lift” with new living room furniture!!  More refurbishing will be accomplished after the season as well.  More information and photos to follow.

Also this Spring we are excited to say that we have upgraded our towels and linens as well as our paper products.  In this way we hope to keep exceeding our guests expectations!!

March Comes in Like a Lamb….

I hope the old adage is not true that if March comes in like a lamb it goes out like a LION!  Even since the  last set of snow pictures were posted on the site we have had more snow!  The new view from our pool area is one of this overgrown drift that seems to remind us that winter is not quite done yet!

Well if winter is not done yet we might as well have more winter fun-Right?  All snowmobile trails and cross country ski trails are open and in good condition.   There’s still some time to enjoy a sleigh ride with the Door County Trolley’s Winter Wonderland Tour.   Take advantage of a remarkable deal when you stay at beautiful Glidden Lodge and add the Winter Wonderland package to your stay!
