The Sturgeon Bay Harvest Moon Festival is an annual favorite around here. From the Door County Advocate:

The streets will be filled with the Old Bolts Car show, art and craft vendors and the retired greyhounds meet and greet. Live music during the day will include Inkapirka from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., DJ Michael Raye from 9 a.m. to noon, Hot Off the Grill from noon to 5p.m. and Ronnie Nyles from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

….The Harvest Moon Celebration will take place on South Third Avenue in front of the Sturgeon Bay Visitor Center Office featuring an evening of bidding at the street art auction at 6 p.m., followed by dancing in the streets with music by Cold Hard Cash until 11 p.m.

There will also be a street art raffle – sturgeon bay sturgeons – for you to enjoy. Check out photos of this year’s art at https://www.facebook.com/sturgeonbay.

Plus a late addition to the festival: Master bluesman Chris Aaron will be playing on the corner of 3rd Ave and Michigan from 2:30-5pm!

Glidden Lodge Has Even More to Offer Nature Lovers!!!

May 26th, 2012

We are so excited, here at Glidden Lodge Beach Resort, because the Door County Land Trust just completed the largest conservation project in Door County in almost 50 years by purchasing 483 acres located right across the street from the Lodge.  This parcel hooks up with the Shivering Sands State Natural area already accessible with trails further south on Glidden Drive.

This area has the largest tract of white cedar in the state of Wisconsin and is extremely biologically diverse.  Hopefully there will be marked trails available soon, with the DNR and Land Trust jointly supervising the property.

So far this spring I’ve had the extreme pleasure of going on 4 hikes in the area, with people who have maps, compasses, and knowledge (we did cross some private property also).  A GPS would be a good idea for people striking out on their own.  What a godsend to Glidden Lodge, a place already blessed by Mother Nature.  Nature lovers will have a field day choosing to walk the gorgeous sandy beach of Lake Michigan or the spectacular woods right across the street.
