A Door County Beach in Winter: Check out the neighborhood!

February 9th, 2012

The hike from Glidden Lodge Beach Resort to Whitefish Dunes State Park (Feb. 4, 2012)

When you stay at the Glidden Lodge Beach Resort in Door County, you have access to 700 feet of Lake Michigan sand beach. However you also have an expanse of sand that you can hike all the way to Whitefish Dunes State Park.

The park has 4.5 miles of winter hiking trails that take you along the water and loops around and above the dunes themselves. Whitefish Dunes State Park is home to eight significant Native American villages, which are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. All trails lead back to a Nature Center featuring displays on the ecology, geology and human history of the park. And while we wish we had more snow for our winter visitors, our close proximity (within walking distance) to this 863 acre gem on the Lake Michigan waterfront makes for an incredibly enjoyable hike on a winter’s day.

Ready for a winter hike on a Door County beach? Contact Glidden Lodge today!

While the dunes themselves are off limits to people, the paths along the beach and back up above the dunes offer spectacular scenery.

A Door County Beach In Winter

February 7th, 2012

YES...this is a photo taken in February, 2012 on the shores of Lake Michigan at Glidden Lodge!

The mild weather this winter has meant Lake Michigan has not frozen over near the shoreline as in most winters previous. That has made for some really great hiking and photo opportunities at the Glidden Lodge Beach Resort in Door County. Check out the photo below from a February 4 hike along their beachfront.

Call 920-746-3900 or toll free 866-GLIDDEN today to schedule your own winter getaway to a Door County beach in winter.

People are not the only guests we have hiking on our Door County beach as these avian footprints reveal.

Winter might still come to Door County after all…

January 12th, 2012

This could be what Door County looks like Friday the 13th!

It would be GREAT to see some “white stuff” in the air and on the ground here in Door County WI.  We have seen a dusting of snow on the peninsula but nothing that accumulated into inches.  So in the next 24 hours we are told to expect 4-6 inches of snow.
Named after our head housekeeper, Snowstorm Angela, could start  our winter season on the right track.  Bring your skies, snowshoes, and hot cocoa – it’s time to plan a weekend getaway at Glidden Lodge Beach Resort.
A place where you can warm up by the fireplace, sit in the whirlpool, and watch the snow fall without a care in the world.  Plan your getaway with one of our front desk specialists and we’ll find the best deal for your needs.

September 3rd, 2011

WOW.  Summer blew by. And what a GREAT summer it was!  We heard a lot of  comments on what great beach weather this summer brought us.  We also heard many grumbles about not wanting to leave because everyone was enjoying themselves.  In fact, we have had many guests re-book for late August or early September because they already missed us!!
Here is a look at what the summer of 2011 looked like at Glidden Lodge Beach Resort

Beat the Heat

July 18th, 2011

This is a real heat wave!  But here at Glidden Lodge Beach Resort on the beautiful shores of Lake Michigan it is not only several degrees cooler, there is a nice breeze coming off the water.  Plus if you get too hot you can always jump in the Lake!
Take advantage of our private, sandy beach.  Enjoy the breeze and get some sun while relaxing in our beach chairs.  At the end of a lazy day you can grill out and eat at the picnic table.  It’s summer – come to Glidden Lodge and enjoy!!
